018 Chenin Wine Bar & Restaurant

Bangkok, Thailand

Chenin wine bar & restaurant

The wine bar ist located on Bangkok's Sukhumvit 31 within the Chenin building. Chenin is a daytime brunch spot that transforms into a vibrant wine bar in the evening. We introduced transparency to the ground floor facade, allowing natural light to flow into the space and establishing a connection to the street level. A custom handle in Yves Klein blue adds a tactile element to the Chenin Bar logo. Across the entrance, a wine display with embedded bench invites guests to take in the scene. The existing terrazzo floor was uncovered from a layer of tiles, to reveal its inherent character. The interior balances the warmth of local Takian and Rubbertree wood with stainless steel surfaces. Specially designed stainless steel wall sconces provide modern illumination at eye height, while two table lamps, crafted from wood and linen, add a warm glow to the space. A 5-meter-long wooden communal table with an integrated wine cooler invites guests to gather, where cooking and wine pouring unfold interaction with the host and other guests. Banquettes upholstered with a blue fabric by Jim Thompson, the renowned Thai heritage brand, offer comfortable seating for guests. Towards the back, a custom Takian wood merch shelf showcases Chenin products for guests to take home.
