Neubau apartment in Berlin Schöneberg

Travels to Japan and Brazil have inspired the design of this urban apartment in a quiet corner of central Berlin. Upon entering, one is drawn along a wooden wall towards the open kitchen and living space. Through the glazed facade of a double-height volume, bright daylight fills the room, filtered by light linen curtains. The kitchen, manufactured by a carpenter from cherry wood, features a floating brushed steel island. A long narrow dining table adds rich patina to the clean backdrop of seamless floors. A joinery wall divides off two peaceful bedrooms and a small study, that overlook a lush garden. Integrating doors, wardrobes, kitchen cupboards and storage cabinets, the joinery wall concentrates functions to create a homogenous and tidy environment. The restrained material palette juxtaposes the cool greys of exposed concrete, limeplaster floors, brushed steel and Italian limestone with the warm hues of cherry wood and the soft texture of linen.
